AKP Phnom Penh, October 27, 2026 --
H.E. Sun Chanthol, Deputy Prime Minister and First Vice Chairman of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC), received a courtesy call from H.E. Ms. Silke Röfer, the newly appointed Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Kingdom of Cambodia, to discuss ways to deepen economic cooperation between the two countries.
During their meeting at the CDC headquarters on Tuesday, both sides exchanged views on current regional and global developments, noting the uncertainties in the international environment and the need for proactive approaches and comprehensive preparedness.
They also emphasised the importance of existing official government-to-private sector mechanisms, which serve as strategic and formal platforms to address the challenges faced by German businesspeople and investors in Cambodia in a timely and transparent manner.
Furthermore, both sides underlined the need to deepen cooperation in attracting more German investment to Cambodia. H.E. Deputy Prime Minister briefed the Ambassador on CDC’s planned business and investment mission to Germany in early 2027.
H.E. Deputy Prime Minister took this opportunity to express his gratitude to the German government for its continuous support toward Cambodia’s socio-economic development through various development cooperation initiatives.
He further briefed the Ambassador on the Royal Government of Cambodia's firm commitment to cracking down on and eradicating online scams in order to enhance social safety and security, as well as to ensure a safe business and investment environment for foreign tourists and investors.
This spirit and effort were highlighted through Cambodia's hosting of the International Conference on Combatting Online Scams (ICCOS-2026) on Sept. 23-24, 2026.
The CDC also plans to hold preparatory discussions with the German side prior to the mission to organise investment forums and business matching sessions to directly engage with representatives of the German private sector, companies, and investors to promote Cambodia’s favorable investment climate and business opportunities.
In response, the German Ambassador shared her delight in undertaking her diplomatic mission in Cambodia and reaffirmed her commitment to working closely with Cambodia to further drive bilateral relations forward with renewed momentum.
