AKP Phnom Penh, October 28, 2026 --
A senior official of the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC) has urged the operator of a major special economic zone (SEZ) to invest in processing high-potential local agricultural products – such as cassava, rice, and rubber – to boost domestic added value, generate employment, expand exports, and fully leverage the nation’s agricultural resources.
H.E. Chea Vuthy, Secretary General of the Cambodian Investment Board (CIB) under the CDC, made the request during a meeting at the CDC headquarters on Tuesday with a delegation from the Royal Group Phnom Penh Special Economic Zone (SEZ), led by Chief Executive Officer Mr. Hiroshi Uematsu.
During the meeting, Mr. Hiroshi Uematsu expressed appreciation to the CDC and relevant Royal Government agencies for their continued support of the company’s business activities, particularly highlighting the Secretary General’s attention to the development of the Royal Group Phnom Penh SEZ.
Mr. Hiroshi Uematsu reported on the progress of the economic zone, citing steady export growth and mentioning upcoming celebrations for the 20th anniversary of the SEZ’s establishment, which has played a vital role in attracting foreign investment and driving Cambodia’s economic activities. He also disclosed plans to develop a new special economic zone in Kampong Thom province.
H.E. Chea Vuthy commended the development progress of the Royal Group Phnom Penh SEZ and encouraged the company to accelerate plans for the new Kampong Thom zone, following a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed with the Kampong Thom Provincial Administration to expand investment activities and support socio-economic development.
In addition to agro-processing, H.E. Chea Vuthy encouraged the company to consider investing in the planted timber industry to supply raw materials for furniture and plywood manufacturing, noting growing demand both present and in the future.
