AKP Phnom Penh, October 29, 2026 --
Deputy Prime Minister H.E. Sok Chenda Sophea thanked the financial sector Wednesday for addressing priority actions to improve lending standards and protect clients.
“I welcome the progress that the Association of Banks in Cambodia and the Cambodia Microfinance Association have just announced,” he said, referring to a joint statement last week.
Speaking at the First National Forum on Financing for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises 2026in Phnom Penh, he noted that the National Bank of Cambodia and the United Nations had identified 22 priority actions.
“Sixteen actions have already been implemented,” the Deputy Prime Minister said.
PROGRESS SHOULD BE STRENGTHENED
“This is progress that must continue to be strengthened,” he added. “Good credit will help enterprises become stronger, not merely increase their debt.”
H.E. Sok Chenda Sophea also urged the financial sector to “continue to seek ways that can respond to the real situation of MSMEs.
“I would like to encourage banking and financial institutions to develop innovative financial products and instruments, as well as to introduce risk-reduction mechanisms,” he said.
“Credit guarantee instruments, risk-sharing, flexible financial products and advisory services can help open doors of opportunity, without abandoning the principle of prudence.”
